Making Lemons into Lemonade
As Emma and her husband were settling into their retirement, he decided to leave their marriage of 41 years. Refusing to surrender herself to a life of self-pity and loneliness, she took charge of her own future and found new love beyond her wildest dreams. This took patience and persistence.
Detour to Happiness
At some point, everyone finds themselves on a road they never thought they would be on. Seven years ago, my husband suddenly passed away, leaving myself, our two-year-old and our unborn baby to create a new life without him. Day by day I worked to put our lives back together and find happiness.
Power of Two
Mother-daughter duo Lori Schmidtke and Kirsten Schmidtke are the beauty and brains behind fashion accessories brand Klas squared. Born from a need to be creative, to leave an impact, and to build something to call their own, the pair teamed up to develop designs that make women feel joyful, feminine, and powerful. Together, these two women have learned that the potential of working together far exceeds what they could achieve individually. By acknowledging one’s weaknesses were the other’s strengths, they soon realized the impact of working together ultimately discovering the Power of Two.
Advice from an Olympic Champion: Embrace your Fears
Every time the Olympics come back on TV I end up calling my rowing partner Kathleen Heddle, or she calls me. How did we do that? How did we win at the Olympics? And… how the heck did we win 3 times, becoming Canada’s most successful Summer Olympians? I always thought of Olympians as superheroes, and I know I’m no super hero. I can’t speak for Kathleen, but for myself – I know all of my faults and weakness. I never ate, hydrated or rested like I imagined an Olympic Champion should have. I never liked stretching; still don’t. But we did win. Winning – winning 12 World and Olympic titles, countless World Cups and other rowing races started somewhere. Being a career champion started somewhere.
